Opposing Cylinders creator, Kevin, grew up with hotrods in his veins. From an early age, Kevin recalls riding in his father’s 1932 Studebaker Rockne Coupe and Sedan. Whether it was attending a car show, taking a ride down the road, or just cleaning on the cars, Kevin couldn’t get enough of it. He learned how to sand and polish aluminum wheels, manifolds and other parts at an early age in his dad’s polishing room. This paid off in Kevin’s future cars with many of the parts being polished in that same room. At age 15, he began stripping his first car to bare metal. A 1978 Malibu was his pride and joy. Kevin’s father was right along his side. The build included a lowered stance, new engine and a 56 Chevy turquoise paint job. Before driving to high school each day, Kevin’s Malibu was detailed regardless of the weather.

During the day, his car dreams would keep him distracted from other “important” things. At night, he would lie awake planning his perfect ride. Kevin’s father continued to fuel his hotrod dreams and be the biggest influence in his life. Unfortunately, those dreams would not be shared together as his father passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 51. A few years later, Kevin would sell his Malibu to buy his future wife an engagement ring. She knew what a sacrifice that it was for him and agreed they should buy their first hotrod before they bought their first house. The car was a 1931 Ford Roadster that owned by one of his dad’s friends. The car he dreamt about was now a reality.

Since his first hotrod, Kevin has owned several hotrods, trucks, 60’s bubbletops and even a few sports cars. Kevin enjoys the pursuit of the next ride. However, the 1932 Studebaker Rockne coupe that his dad never got to finish was always Kevin’s dream build. Thirteen years after his father passed away the Rockne was finally finished. It was a great lesson in patience.
In addition to Kevin’s Rockne, which is now awaiting a total makeover, He owns an all-steel 41 Willys. This Willys was previously owned by his father’s best friend. These cars have been running together since the early 70’s.

Kevin has always had the goal of being immersed in the automotive world. In the spring of 2018,Opposing Cylinders was created. As Kevin and a friend were talking about how different they were from one another, their love of hotrods made the differences disappear. They discussed how people push against one another in so many areas but are pulled together with their passion of cool rides. This push and pull led to Opposing Cylinders and the joy of sharing hotrods with you.
