1932 Ford Survivor Hot Rod

The beginning of this story features a scene that would be a charming but improbable dream for many Hot Rod or early Ford enthusiasts. Imagine finding an intact  ‘32 Ford that had been sitting  for 40 years at an Estate Sale in Rural Ohio. For HAMB member, Steve Fowler, that idyllic idea was a reality in 2004, when we found this lacquer painted and pinstriped ‘32 Ford Tudor Survivor in Apple Creek Ohio.

The car was kind of a time machine with hand painted pinstripes on radiator shell, gas tank, and the Henry Ford original tan dashboard, but was in need of some mechanical attention to get it back on the road. Because of the unique and intact nature of how he found of the car overall, Steve elected to keep the patina and bodywork of the car intact to preserve the history and soul that was there.

Steve lovingly gave the Tudor all the attention and detail that was needed to make this barn find survivor a well sorted driver that he could drive anywhere, from rebuilding a 1952 Mercury 4” stroke 8BA, with some choice speed parts like an Isky cam, to installing a sweet shifting rebuilt and resealed ’39 Transmission with Lincoln Zephyr gears, and installing Boling Brothers Lincoln Style Hydraulic Brakes.

The car starts immediately and idles easily breathing through a 2 carb Stromberg setup combined with vintage Edmunds intake, and Red’s headers for a beautiful Flathead exhaust note. There are lot of charming “time machine” elements on the car, enough to make you effectively imagine you are driving through the early 50s from the intact gas station oil change records on the windshield pillar, to the period accessory turn signals.

I purchased this car from Steve in 2021, and have enjoyed many happy adventures with it, from driving road tripping it through 3 states, to participating in Jalopy Jam Up in Ontario and other more local traditional style events. I appreciate everything that is special about this car, but with the needs of the family evolving, I am happy to offer to it to another similarly minded enthusiast who will appreciate what it is.

This is the style of car that many are inspired by to build in a similar veign throughout the last 20 years, but to find one that has the direct survivor lineage back to the early 50s is rare, and hence in the main charm of this car.
