The Opposing Cylinders 1932 Studebaker Rockne coupe has been in the family since 1968. Owned by Kevin’s father, the coupe was known across the country for being one rare hotrod as well as its candy purple paint. Prior to being purple it was black and attended the very first Street Rod Nationals in Peoria, IL where it won an award. Eventually as the family grew, they could no longer all fit into the coupe. A matching Rockne sedan was built in candy purple. The coupe stayed in the garage for nearly 20 years before it was time to rebuild it once again.
Unfortunately, the dream for Kevin’s father did not live to see it come to its completion. It was then decided the car would be built in honor of Kevin’s father. Thirteen years later after Kevin’s father passed away, with the help of many shops, the coupe was once again on the streets. Lo Man Rods in Tipp City, OH was responsible for finishing the car while, BOb Lyons finished the leather interior.
The coupe is one of three Rockne cars the family has owned. According to the Rockne Registry, it is one of approximately 200 completed Rockne cars left known to exist.
The car is now undergoing a complete rebuild again at Lo Man Rods.
